Glossary

ACSIL

Advanced Custom Study Interface and Language. A C++ based language for custom trading algos and studies. This is not required to operate Sierra Chart, but there are things that can only be done through use of ACSIL

Charts

Visual graphs of data but also includes similar windows that are referred to as charts such as DOM

Chartbooks

A workspace layout of different charts and windows. This is a collection of data that can be shared with others by sending the chartbook file. Saving a chartbook will save the layout of the current charts open

Data folder

A critical folder for storing studies and other data. This is often reffered to within this guide. It is located on the computer of the user: USER/SierraChart/Data/

Formula

A string of text referencing bars, studies, or other data that is used to achieve a task, signal, or alert.

Global Settings

These settings affect the entire instance of Sierra Chart. Some studies and settings can opt-out of using Global Settings

Graph

The area in the window which drawing and data is applied

OHLC

The open, high, low, and closing values of a bar. Typically a draw style alternative to candlestick.

Spreadsheet

There are multiple spreadsheet types in Sierra Chart. Just how traditional data platforms utilize cells organized in rows and columns, Sierra Chart uses a particular spreadsheet file extension type. Most formulas are very similar to traditional spreadsheet applications.

Studies

For most this is another word for indicators. Studies are graphs or formulas on a chart

Subgraph

Display data from the study onto the chart. Components of a study.

Symbol

The name of a trading product (Example: The SP500 Futures Contract has a specific name, or symbol. ES_F depending on data provider.) The symbols are data feed specific and vary.

Title Bar

Throughout this handbook, a path of steps to follow often starts by referencing an item from the title bar (shown in the image below). Example: Global Settings > Date/Trade Service Settings. The “Global Settings” is part of the title bar.

Trigger Chart

1 or more charts that are used to initiate, modify, and close trading positions and orders. Typically refreshed on a lower latency
